Second Grade Team

Allyson Gibson

Mrs. Gibson

Hello! My name is Allyson Gibson and I am a 2nd grade teacher here at Kendallvue Elementary.

I received my first degree from Metro State and continued my education by getting a Masters in curriculum design. I have now been at Kendallvue for all 13 years of my teaching career and could not be more grateful for landing in such a great community. I taught 1st grade for 4 years, a 2-3 split, and have since been in 2nd. I absolutely love teaching 2nd graders!

I am a mom of two amazing boys (with LOTS of energy) ages 9 and 7. Most of my time outside of school is spent with them at the park, library, swimming and playing baseball, football, soccer…and the list goes on! When I do get an extra minute or two, I enjoy the outdoors, reading, crocheting, and going out to dinner.

Teaching has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. Therefore, I am essentially living my dream career. I love working with kids and seeing their faces light up when they have mastered something new. Creating a team of learners within the classroom is something I value. I am looking forward to another great year in 2nd grade!

Kelsey Fugita

Hello! My name is Kelsey Fugita and I am one of the lucky teachers in 2nd grade this year! This school year is my 3rd year teaching and my 5th year at Kendallvue. I was lucky enough to be able to be a student teacher here in 3rd grade. I have also taught 2nd and 3rd grade here at Kendallvue.

As a lifelong learner, I am always striving to become a better teacher and learn something new every day. Teaching is a beautiful thing, because not only do I get to teach students, but I also get to learn from them every single day. I believe in high expectations for students and helping them meet those achievements. There’s nothing better than seeing hard work pay off! I believe that every child can be a leader and do amazing things.

There is no place like Kendallvue for me, and it has truly become my home over these past five years. I have grown to know so many of the families and have had many siblings in my classes! I love the sense of community we have here at Kendallvue and the fact that we are able to have so much involvement!

I am a Colorado Native and enjoy spending my time with my family and my dog Finn. Reading and going on adventures are two of my favorite things! Harry Potter and BTS are two of my favorite things, as well! I also love sports and watching the Denver Broncos, Colorado Avalanche, and Chicago Blackhawks!

I am so excited for this year and look forward to seeing everyone!

Katie Young

Katie Young

Hello Kendallvue! My name is Katie (Catherine) Young and I am excited to be teaching second grade at Kendallvue this year! This will be my 2nd year teaching, and my 2nd year here at Kendallvue. I am from Fairbanks Alaska and graduated from the University of Wyoming. I did my student teaching in Riverton Wyoming at a Kindergarten center. After graduation I worked in a middle school in Laramie Wyoming for two years with students with severe cognitive disabilities. My husband and I moved to Colorado in the summer of 2022 so he could finish his PHD and post-doc at Colorado School of Mines. We both love it here and hope this can be our forever home!

When I am not at school I love hiking, camping, reading, walking dogs, spending time with my family, and traveling. I also love playing any sports, but basketball, soccer, and football are my favorites!

I strongly believe that every student is capable of amazing things. It is my passion to help all my students find how they can be successful and create a strong foundation for a love of learning! Growing up I had many teachers who were not passionate about their job, which made school miserable for me. My goal is to give students a teacher who is passionate about what they do, show students that learning can be fun, and that everyone can be successful if given the right tools. I love seeing all the wheels turn while they are trying to figure out something new, and the excitement when things start to click and they understand.

I am so excited for this year and thankful to be teaching at Kendallvue!
